10:22 AM me: Ask a vet online says that Hooper can have “cold tale” caused by tremendous wagging of the tail. Basically he threw out his tail.
10:23 AM It says that if the tail seems painful in any way to take him to the vet. I felt allup and down his tail Monday and he didn’t seem at all like it hurt him.

Chase needed his butt squeezed every few nights. He had chronically stuffed anal glands. Dogs make a little slime that is supposed to come out when they poop, but if it doesn’t, you have to express them yourself. Or rather, Tom has to express them while you watch.

There are two ways to do it. The vet will poke two fingers up poor Hoop’s butt and pinch with her thumb. But you can also take your two fingers and thumb and pinch around Hooper’s anus from the outside, sort of like if you were grabbing a baby’s cheeks to pooch out his lips. Pretend Hooper’s anus is the lips. You’re looking for some gray slime to come out. If maroonish stuff comes out that’s okay, too. If little black granules come out, that’s also okay. If red blood comes out, Hooper needs some prescription cream from the doctor.

My God. Did I really just type those paragraphs? Yes. Yes, and I can tell you so much more about anal glands if you ever want to know.

And yes, it’s hilarious. And yes, if his glands are stuffed, he will feel so SO so much better after you squeeze ‘em!

Wow! We never had to go there. His tail was better when we got home that night. It’s practically back to normal. He just over wagged it.
