There’s a total lunar eclipse tonight (not that I’ll get to see it because of our craptacular weather). If the weather is clear in your area, you should check it out. It will be the last total lunar eclipse until December 2010.
A lunar eclipse only happens with a full moon
and the moon passes through some portion of the earth’s shadow. The earth’s shadow gives the moon a red color due to atmosphere, but if you catch the eclipse at the beginning, the moon can sometimes look turquoise.
Enjoy!

I heard about this–I’m hoping the clouds lift so I can see it!
Just saw a blog somewhere from someone on the east coast going on about how great the eclipse is so far!! Bastards. Don’t they know how cloudy and crappy it is here???
Tom went out in the neighborhood last night with his pigjamas on, trying to have a look, but it was too cloudy. (Pigjamas = black pajamas with bright pink pigs all over them.)
Pigjamas–hehehe. (On a semi-related note, my favorite pajamas are all black. AM calls it my ninja suit. I should’ve gone to look at the eclipse in my ninja suit. Herherher.)
I got a couple of not great pics of this on my flickr page
