BOOK SEVEN

22 07 2007

My book arrived at 10:30 AM Saturday morning. I began reading at 11:30 AM. Finished book at 3:25 AM Sunday morning. It was great. There were parts that made laugh out loud (I love the Weasley twins). There were parts that made me sob like a baby. But I loved it.

I can’t believe after all this time, the series is finally over. It makes me want to start at the beginning and just do a strait read through.

Sigh.

STAMP SIX

17 07 2007

stamp sixLast week I mentioned to Robin that Eskimo Joe’s is one of the passport stamps and she looked up at me at said two words…”cheese fries”. We decided that we had to go have lunch at Eskimo Joe’s. The plan was simple. Go to Stillwater. Eat cheese fries. Get stamp. Come home. And that’s exactly what we did.

It was a good thing we went last week. This week marks the 32nd Anniversary of Eskimo Joe’s and they celebrate all week long. The place gets really hoppin’ during anniversary week. It was pretty busy when we went. I can just imagine how crazy hectic it is this week.

We had a nice lunch reminiscing about our days at OSU. We dragged Jen along so she could see the most popular bar in Oklahoma and hear our stories. I told her that you can’t come to Oklahoma and not go to Eskimo Joe’s. It’s part of the Oklahoma Experience.

Three stamps to go and I think I’m going to put the last three off until next month. Spread it out a little, that and we had to put about $500 worth of new parts into our car. At least now I won’t have to worry about my car actually getting me to the final stamps.

OVERHEARD

16 07 2007

Actual sentence overheard in the frozen dinner aisle at Wal-Mart:

“Man, one of these days when I git me some money, I’m comin’ back an gittin’ me some of that stir-fry.â€?

I almost offered to buy him some.

I PLEAD THE FIFTH

10 07 2007

The Fifth StampChris and I spent the weekend in Tulsa for a wedding so we decided (OK…it was my idea) to take an alternate route home so I could get another stamp on my passport. The fifth stamp comes from the Grape Ranch in Okemah.

Wineries have been popping up all over Oklahoma for a while now. A few years ago I conned my mother into visiting a winery in Vinita. It turned out to only be a tasting room and gift shop and I was a little disappointed that we didn’t get to see the actual winery. The moment you drive through the gates of The Grape Ranch, you know you’re at a winery. The first thing you see are rows of grapevines. The tasting room is situated at the back corner of these rows.

The tasting room is small and intimate with a pretty little landscaped waterfall out front. Our hostess was great. She did a much better job at remembering which wines were our favorites then we did. We couldn’t spend too much time there because Hooper was with us, but we definitely plan on a return visit. OK, the real reason to go back is to get a big glass of a frozen version of one of their reds. It was quite tasty and very refreshing on a hot summer day and probably just a little bit dangerous.

When ever I’ve asked for a stamp for my passport I get one of two responses. A couple of people have said that they haven’t seen a passport with so many stamps all ready. But most have said that I was their first stamp. Only four to go. At this rate I’ll be finished long before Labor Day roles around.

THE FOURTH ON THE FOURTH

4 07 2007

The Fourth StampI had intended to make the Oklahoma Museum of Art my fourth stamp, but they were closed today. So Chris and I went to the Myriad Botanical Gardens instead. It was like taking a trip to Hawaii…sort of.

This was the first Fourth of July that Chris and I have had were we didn’t have some sort of family obligation. We took our time wandering around the gardens and doing a lot of “Oooh…look at that”. They have recently added some new walk ways and they tiled it with the same tile we’ve been looking at for our kitchen. I think it sold us on that particular tile. We also picked out some new plants for around the house. We think they’d be great for dissuading burglars. Chris learned that pineapples do not grow in trees. We also discovered that one coffee plant just isn’t enough. Not if you both want to have a cup a coffee.

We had a really nice time and parking was free for the Fourth of July. This made Chris very happy. Check out the pictures.
